ABOUT ME

BIO
I'm a user experience and interactive interface designer based out of Portland, Oregon. Most of my mental activity revolves around design, technology, photography, science, sustainability, obscure pop culture references from the 80s, and well... my dog. When I'm not working hard I like to play hard. I enjoy windsurfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, tennis, and hiking... with my dog. I grew up in downtown Philadelphia, went to college for marine biology in Florida, emerged with a business degree, and then migrated to the Columbia River Gorge to explore the outdoor paradise I had heard so much about back East. Needless to say I fell in love with the Portland area, and to this day I cannot imagine calling any other place home.
PHILOSOPHY
I feel very lucky because my work and side projects are a natural manifestation of my interest in visual information design and my fascination with technology's ability to enhance experiences and affect people and society in significant ways. Positive user experiences enable people and organizations to deliver lasting impressions on their audience and customers, consequently reinforcing those relationships and establishing a degree of trust that is extremely difficult to achieve through other means.
HOW I GOT HERE
I have always been drawn to beautifully efficient design that elegantly combines form and function. That attraction - along with my interest in technology, psychology, and the visual communication of information - quite naturally lead me to the field of HCI and user experience design. I began working as an interactive designer in the late 90s when the impact and potential of positive user experiences had yet to be fully appreciated in the context of the emerging medium of the internet. Although usability was rarely considered a top priority in design and development cycles for several years, the importance of user experience in every aspect of our lives is quickly being realized, and it's a very exciting time to be a part of that movement.
