In CIS you will be recording your career exploration, goals, and achievements in your portfolio. You will reflect on activities you complete and save information that is important to you. Your school has set some guidelines about what your plan must include each year. This helps you and your school monitor your progress.
My PEP is organized by grade level in high school. Simply follow the steps listed and you will have met your schools requirements. More importantly, you will have a good idea of how to move forward into your life after high school.
9th Grade(freshmen)
Complete these 6 steps to fulfill the CIS portion of your 9th grade portfolio requirements.
Remember... Your work will be reviewed and will count toward earning your senior portfolio credit.
My portfolio
If you've used CIS in the past, you probably already have personal information saved in your career planning portfolio. Be sure to update your personal information at least once a year. If you are new to CIS, complete my personal information.
You can also review what you have already stored in you CIS portfolio.
My self
Completing a career interest inventory won't tell you what career path to choose, but it will help you to think about who you are and what you like to do. You must complete 1 interest assessment this year - either IDEAS or the Interest Profiler. Be sure to click on SAVE in the title bar so you can return to your results in the future.
My research - occupations
Research your favorite occupations. Use your "My self" assessment results to help identify possible occupation areas. Pay particular attention to the needed skills and preparation requirements, and identify suggested high school courses.
- Explore occupations or review the occupations in your IDEAS or Interest Profiler lists
- Save at least 3 occupations to your portfolio - click on SAVE in the title bar
- Identify helpful high school courses for each occupation you save
My reflections and goals
Reflect upon your learning and record your goals. Remember, your reflections will be reviewed and will count toward earning your senior portfolio credit.

My CRLEs
CRLEs (pronounced "CUR-LEES") are career-related learning experiences. A CRLE may be listening to guest speakers, classroom presentations, or employer panels; participating in industry tours, field trips, career expos, informational interviews, service learning activities, or mock interviews; and completing a job shadow or internship.
You must complete and record a minimum of 2 CRLEs this year.
- Record your CRLE
- Select the type of experience from the four listed and click on New
- Complete the plan information
- Under Complete My Plan in the menu on the left, click on Review and Reflect
- Record your thoughts about what you learned from this CRLE experience and Save Changes
My Essential Skills
Essential Skills are skills critical for success in school, employment, college, family, and community life. Over the course of your high school career, you will be asked to document mastery in these skills.
Instructions for documenting mastery of Essential Skills will be provided as they become available.

10th Grade(Sophmores)
Complete these 7 steps to fulfill the CIS portion of your 10th grade portfolio requirements.

My portfolio
Be sure to update your personal information at least once a year.
You can also review what you have already stored in you CIS portfolio.
My resume
Resumes present information about your education and work history. You can store this kind of information in your CIS portfolio and use it to build resumes for applying for jobs, college, and scholarships. Each year in high school you should update your information and your resume.
- Under Education and Training, Education History, enter information about high school. You might also have information to enter in the other categories.
- Under Paid and Unpaid Work, Work History, enter information about any jobs you have had. If you have had a volunteer job, enter it in Volunteer Work/Community Service.
- Under Achievements, Activities, and Skills, enter information about your activities. At any time, you can add information about achievements and skills.
Then create a resume by clicking on Create Resume, Format and Create Resume. You can choose a resume style - Recent Grad is a simple one. You can save your format options and your final resumes in your CIS portfolio.
My self
After you finish school, you will need to work to pay for housing, food, clothes, transportation, and the other necessities of life. Complete Reality Check to discover how much money you willl need to support the life style you want. You will also be able to identify occupations that will pay for it.
OR
Complete 1 new assessment - IDEAS, the Interest Profiler, or SKILLS. Make sure this assessment is different from any that you have saved in your portfolio in the past. Completing one of these assessments won't tell you what career path to choose, but it will help you think about who you are and what you like to do. Be sure to click on SAVE in the title bar so you can return to your results in the future.

During your junior year in high school, it is important that you begin making post-high school plans. Researching programs of study will help you:
- discover post-high school education and training programs that relate to your career interests;
- learn more about the colleges, universities, career schools that offer them; and
- consider various training, certificate, degree, or university transfer options.
Identify programs of study or training that match your interests and goals in CIS:
- Explore programs of study and training OR find programs related to occupations that interest you (In the occupation description, click on Programs of Study and Training under Related Information. You may want to use My Favorites to locate occupations you have researched in the past.)
- Save at least 3 programs to your portfolio
- For each saved program, include a brief reflection about why you are saving this program in "My Thoughts"

FIND SCHOOLS RELATED TO ONE OR MORE OF YOUR PROGRAMS:
- Go to My Favorites to view the programs you have saved.
- Click on the program of study and training title; click on Oregon Schools or U.S. Schools under Related Information
- Click on the folder for the region or state that you wish to explore
- Click on the school name. This will take you to detailed information about that school. If that school interests you, save it to your portfolio with a brief reflection about why you are interested in the school in "My Thoughts"
- Save at least 3 schools to your portfolio
OR FIND SCHOOLS OFFERING TWO- AND FOUR-YEAR DEGREES AND USE OTHER CRITERIA TO NARROW YOUR LIST:
- Complete the Undergraduate School Sort
- Save at least 3 schools from your list to your portfolio
- For each saved school, include a brief reflection about why you are saving this school in "My Thoughts"
OR LOOK FOR SCHOOLS IN OREGON OR THE U.S.:
- Explore Oregon Schools - includes all schools in Oregon, offering from short-term certificates to graduate degrees (The school names are alphabetically listed but you can change the list to the type of school by clicking on the Clusters Index tab.)
- OR explore U.S. Schools - includes all schools with Associate Degree programs and above (The school names are listed alphabetically by state but you can change the list to alphabetical by clicking on the Titles Index tab.)
- Save at least 3 schools from your list to your portfolio
- For each saved school, include a brief reflection about why you are saving this school in "My Thoughts"

My CRLS
CRLS (pronounced "CURLS") stands for career-related learning standards. These standards are skills that are essential for success in school, employment, college, family, and community life. Over the course of your high school career, you must document mastery in each of four CRLS: problem solving, personal management, teamwork, and communication.
To document your mastery, you must complete four separate reflections, one for each standard. You must also obtain the appropriate signatures and upload each completed form to your Personal Education Plan.
If you are ready to document one or more of the CRLS now, click on the appropriate link below to obtain the forms and get started. If you are not ready to document any of the CRLS now, you will have the opportunity to do so next year.

My research - financial aid or jobs
Researching financial aid options will help you identify possible sources of funds to help you pay for your education and training after high school.
- Complete Financial Aid Sort to locate scholarships and other financial aid options or find scholarships related to programs of study and training that interest you (In the program description, click on Financial Aid under Related Information. You may want to use My Favorites to locate programs you have researched in the past.)
- Save at least 3 awards to your portoflio
- For each saved award, include a brief reflection about why you are saving this award in "My Thoughts"
OR
If you are considering going to work directly after high school, completing the Oregon Employment Department's iMatch Skills program will give you a jump start to finding a job.
Note: iMatch Skill is not a part of the CIS program. After completing iMatch, you must print "View Summary" and submit the printed report to your school's career pathways contact.

My Extended Application (EA)
Your extended application (EA) is a type of career-related learning experience (CRLE) - but it is longer (extended) and expects you to apply and learn skills (application). Your EA will include what you have learned and should show how your experience(s) connect with your post-high school plans.
- Complete 30 hours of career or postsecondary related experience(s). These may include paid or unpaid work experience, service learning, an internship, or post-secondary research and applications. The 30 hours may be accrued through one or more experiences. Adult verification is required.
- Complete an EA reflection and upload it to your Personal Education Plan.
